Andy Gotts: My shot of glorious Tom Hiddleston for #SaveTheArctic
New Line has come on board to co-produce MGM’s drama “Me Before You” with MGM and set an Aug. 21, 2015, release date.
MGM is handling production for “Me Before You,” produced by Karen Rosenfelt (“Twilight”) and based on the Jo Jo Moyes’ bestseller of the same name.
“Me Before You” centers on a young English woman content with her small-town life who’s hired as the caretaker for an affluent Londoner paralyzed in a tragic accident. Both are surprised to receive insight, perspective and ultimately love from the other.
Sharrock’s TV credits include the BBC miniseries “The Hollow Crown” with Tom Hiddleston and the BBC series “Call the Midwife.” Her theater credits include “Equus” with Daniel Radcliffe, “The Misanthrope” with Keira Knightley and “After the Dance.”
Also, from Deadline Hollywood:
EXCLUSIVE: MGM, Paramount and Timur Bekmambetov set a February 26, 2016, release date on an epic remake of Ben-Hur; have they found their chariot driver in Tom Hiddleston? I hear that he’s the one the studios are courting to play Judah Ben-Hur in the adaptation of the 1880 Lew Wallace novel Ben-Hur: A Tale Of The Christ, which was the biggest-selling novel of its time until it was eclipsed by Gone With The Wind.
Hiddleston isn’t being fitted for a toga just yet. He has other projects vying for his services, including the MGM pic Me Before You. Keith Clarke, who scripted the Peter Weir-directed The Way Back, wrote the script that MGM pounced on after that company got ambitious following its emergence from bankruptcy and huge hits in Skyfall and The Hobbit. Mark Burnett and Roma Downey joined Sean Daniel and Joni Levin as producers, with Clarke and Jason Brown exec producing. Oscar-winning 12 Years A Slave scribe John Ridley wrote the last draft.
Remember guys, rumor is rumor until an official announcement is made. However, Your Humble Narrator is really hoping that Tom re-teams with Sharrok on “Me Before You”, they seemed to work extremely well together on “The Hollow Crown” (and that was their 1st time working with each other).
Having said that, I’m not a big fan of the “Ben-Hur” rumor my Hiddlestoner brethren. To me it’s a remake of a classic that simply doesn’t need to happen. Put Tom aside for a moment. No matter who they cast for the title role or who directs it, it will have to completely surpass the original in every aspect. To put it in perspective, the original movie won 11 Oscars including Best Picture, 4 Golden Globes including Best Feature Film, it even won a Grammy. The list goes on and on. It was the fastest grossing film of its day and the 2nd highest grossing film in history at that time (it took “Gone With the Wind” to beat it out). It’s considered to be not only a classic but one of the greatest classics in cinema…So yeah, no pressure there MGM.
